The Off-Site Source Recovery Program (OSRP), directed and funded by the National Nuclear Security Administration's Office of Radiological Security (ORS), is dedicated to the safe removal of disused U.S.-origin radioactive sealed sources that present potential risks to national security, public health, and safety. This initiative encompasses the recovery of high-activity beta/gamma emitting sources and transuranic materials that are not commercially disposable, addressing concerns from both the U.S. government and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

Since its inception in 1997, OSRP has successfully recovered more than 48,000 sources from 1,770 sites across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and 29 foreign countries. These efforts have led to the secure removal of more than 1.5 million curies (55,500TBq) of radioactive material, significantly enhancing safety and security worldwide.
